I need to meet more people.

I was sitting at my computer, like I seem to be doing for the majority of my time these days, mindlessly searching. “Searching for what?” you might ask. Well, my answer is a pretty simple one.

“People.”

For a blogger, I think I’m both insulated and divided. I’m insulated because, well, I don’t “talk” (read: comment) to many other people, and other people don’t talk back. And I’m divided because I hang in three main groups, in three different places. I follow authors on my livejournal, book bloggers via On The Nightstand, and everyone else here at Catherine-Haines.com.

It’s an odd feeling, as sometimes I feel like I am at least two different people, if not three. And that all of them are very lonely. I/We all sit around and lurk on various places. I/We want to comment, but it’s hard to find something that I/we have something to say about.

And I know everyone hates really simple one-liners, those “love the layout!” comments that don’t match the entry. So it’s back to lurking once more.

That’s why I am writing this post. I know you have to give a little to get a little. What I want to get is communication, blogs to read and blogs to comment on, and I suppose communication is what I can offer to give back. But what I would like from you is a starting point.

Who do you follow, who do you read? Those who do know me, who do you think I should follow, that I might like?

I’m not sure if you’d like this blog, but I’m following the adventures of a guy in the States who is visiting a different church every Sunday for the year. http://churchexperiment.blogspot.com/ I’m writing an essay on him for my American Religion class, snerk!

I asked the same question a few weeks ago – I wanted to “meet” more bloggers and have interesting blogs to add to my feed reader. I don’t know you very well (I only stumbled up on your blog recently :P ) but what I’ve done is read all of the blogs that I’ve stumbled across, good and bad, and used that as a starting point to find interesting blogs. It’s probably not the best way but it’s what I’ve been doing so far :)

I have same problem. I don’t really “know” anyone and I’m not good at commenting because I don’t know what to say so I’m always just lurking. I’ve read your blog awhile now but never made a comment before….

Let me talk about how I TOTALLY FEEL YOU (and am really late responding to everything I bookmarked to respond to, ha ha).

As for following people, man, I don’t even know, I vetted who I read through Dewey. :( Maybe we should go ask the Weekly Geeks folks if there could be a week for a meet and greet project, since there are so many new bloggers out and about? It’s an idea!

I’m a lurker as well. I’ve been following some blogs for years and never commented. The same goes with forums–I sign up, post in the new user thread, and then never go on again. Perhaps real life translates into online life? I never know what to say in face-to-face conversations, either, except “Yeah.” “Cool.” Still working on that. :/
