A Double Celebration!
I have reached the 40 000 and 10 000 word marks for Lionheart and Bones respectively. Isn’t that awesome?
I think so!
Anyway, now that I have more than definitely reached the half-way point for Lionheart, and am about a sixth of the way through Bones I just need to be like the kitty below and reference Star Wars stay on target.

But in the meantime: Yippee!

You go girl!! And yay for Star Wars references!!
Awesome, good for you. I told ya you’d make it. That’s very exciting!!
Congratulations! Good to hear you got over that sticky point in Lionheart.
Also, I’m curious. How do you decide how long your books are going to be – because clearly these are aiming to be two different lengths. Is it the content, the aimed audience..?
@Ann: It’s sort of the result of the outline, and also just the general feel for the story as well. Lionheart is much more traditional fantasy, larger, longer, and it’s part of a duology. After writing Blood Bound, which turned out to be 80k, I can get a better feel as to how long these ones are.
Bones is much more intimate a book – there’s less big scenes and dramatics like with Lionheart and Blood Bound. It just feels shorter, on the lower end of the YA wordcount spectrum, which is 60-80k or so.
There’s some flexibility, and I am feeling that there is a definite chance that Lionheart and Bones will end up both being around 70k. The goals are just guidelines, to help me focus and not to go over the top.
That is awesome. Yay!
