A Random Blood Bound Drabble

I woke up in the middle of last night and found myself scribbling down a drabble. After a bit of polishing, and the addition of a few words to make it a round 100, here it is.

Even before I met him I had made the choice.

You kind of have to ignore the past if you are going to ever actually work with vampires. But even so, it’s still very hard to ignore all those nagging thoughts.

Like how those hands that touch you and hold you so carefully have so often been stained with blood.

How that mouth that kisses you so softly, so sweetly, has ripped throats open and drained people dry.

I don’t really know which is scarier. Having death being in love with you.

Or being in love with death right back.

Common Themes/Motifs/Ideas In My Writing

On my LJ flist I spotted a meme that was going around, about what are the themes and motifs that show up in your writing. Since I was just discussing that with Rebekah the other day1 it seemed like a perfect meme to do.

So, in no particular order, some of the things that recurr in my writing:

  • Truth, and the realisation of it
  • The importance of family
  • Mirrors/reflections
  • Dual identities/masks
  • Mythology/fairy tales
  • Self-reliance/independence
  • Coming of age
  • Love and the yearning for it in a practical world2

There is probably a lot more that I can think of, but those would be the main ones. What are some of yours?

  1. She pointed out a lot of stuff I hadn’t noticed, prompting me to go, “I think my brain is smarter than me”, a line I am not sure makes sense []
  2. Thanks to my beta for pointing that out []

March Madness Writing Challenge!

I found out about this on R.E. James’s website and decided to take part1.

Denise Jaden and some of her friends are having a March Madness Writing Challenge. So what does this all mean?

If you have a writing project you’re ready to start, or a work in progress you’re ready to finish, come and join the fun. Accountability is our main aim and the more support we have, the easier it will be to sail on through the month of March, bouncing along on each others successes.

And did I mention there will be prizes? Prizes will not be awarded based on how much you write or revise, but simply on how involved you are in the Big Accountability Plan. There will be seven check-in points per week. Each time you check in and record your progress, your name will be entered in a draw for some great prizes, including some high-demand ARC’s and writing craft books.

Spread the word, and check out http://denisejaden.livejournal.com this coming Monday, March the first to put your goals officially in writing and find out the locations of the check-in points. If you’re ready to get serious, don’t do it alone…Get serious with us!

My goal for this is to write at least 12 000 words for The Circled Green, thus taking my total from 28 000 to a nice round 40 000. I did hardly any writing last month, as whooping cough does not make for a great writing state, so I would really like to dig in and do it properly this time around.

Are you gonna join in too?

  1. What can I say? Any offer of free stuff/prizes automatically gets my attention []
