Writing

This is the page dedicated to my original fiction. Here you can read the blurbs for the novels and even read the opening extracts from my various drafts. And at the very bottom of this page are short stories.

When it comes to novel-length original fiction, there are two main types. Primary projects are just that: the projects I am focussing on as much as I can. Secondary projects are those that I do with to complete, but are on the back-burner for the moment. I continue to add to them, but they are often used as a means to keep me writing even when I am blocked on a primary project. For me, the longer I do not write the harder it is to get back into it. So when I am stuck on one project specifically, I can keep writing and add to another at the same time.

Main Projects

Lionheart

Leander Lowe knows the tales: it was the women in the circle of leaders that doomed their civilization and allowed the old kingdom to be invaded and destroyed. And that is why, three hundred years later, only men are allowed to learn and practice magic – the only women who do practice magic are the weak, common-born females who are descended from the people Leander’s ancestors conquered. This is what Leander knows and was raised to believe.

But when his sister is abducted by some dark external force, and Leander starts receiving visions leading him to the old kingdom, Leander is forced to question everything he knows as he tries to find the truth in the lies that make up his whole world.

Lionheart is a young adult steampunk/magic duology, currently in its first draft.

The Circled Green

Upon learning that her father is finally willing to remarry after eight years of widowhood, sixteen year old Aurora dreams not of wicked stepmothers, but of her own future husband and marriage. Not content to wait until the next London season for her debut, Aurora tries an old superstition meant to reveal the face of her destined husband in her dreams.

Unbeknownst to Aurora, this is just the opportunity Ciar has been waiting for. An Unseelie gone rogue, Ciar has been watching and obsessing over Aurora for two years now, and the only thing he wants now is for Aurora to say two things: that she loves him, and that she will come away with him. Ignoring the way his former cohorts laugh at him for wanting her love and permission, Ciar takes advantage of this moment to appear to her as the husband God intended for her.

But when things do not go according to plan for Ciar, and Aurora begins to fall for a human young man, the rogue faerie lover steps from dreams to reality, bringing with him danger, inspiring lust, jealousy and anger, and revealing secrets about the history of the Lairdship itself.

The Circled Green is the tale of love, obsession, faerie interference and family saga set in 1860s Scotland.

Secondary Projects

Bones

Dinah is dying. Cancer crept through her system and only made its presence known when it was too late to stop it. Now she has a few months left, and everything else is going to hell in a handbasket around her: everyone in the house is stressed; her parents don’t dare to raise their voice to her and instead take their frustrations out on each other in quiet, but constant, arguments; and her father has taken to working overtime everyday in an attempt to cope with watching his daughter fade away.

Gregory is dead, and has been for some time. He managed to survive the war and come back home, and then… nothing. All he knows is that he was murdered, and that he is stuck in this half-existence until he finds out who did it, and his body is laid to proper rest. The only problem is he can’t do this alone, and as a ghost he is invisible to the world of the living.

When Dinah and Gregory discover that the dying can see the dead, it seems like a strange answer to their prayers: Gregory has someone to help him move on, and Dinah has someone she can finally talk to about death and evidence that it is a beginning as well as an end. Racing against the calendar of death itself, the unlikely partnership must work together to set Gregory free and help him move on to his true destination. And soon, as Dinah’s time is running out – and Gregory might not get another chance.

Bones is a young adult paranormal novel about life, death and love, currently in its first draft.

On Hiatus

Blood Bound

Delia Richards knows a thing or two about vampires. When her older brother, Charlie, was turned into one, the whole family discovered a world they did not believe existed. But the Richardses are not out for revenge – they’re out to make a buck. Taking advantage of a treaty passed four decades ago that forbids human deaths, they market their modified small-town inn as the perfect place for vampires to stay while hunting large game in the area nearby. But while a Georgian-era vampire is getting Delia all in a fluster, a series of vampire-related deaths in the state threatens to disrupt the peace of their small town even more. And to make matters worse, the vampire seems to have set its sights on Delia.

For everyone’s sakes, Delia had better be careful. Vampires may be family, vampires may be friends… but they’re also very dangerous.

Complete at 80 000 words, Blood Bound is a young adult urban fantasy novel currently on hiatus.
